If you’re wondering how much does a taxi cost in general, there really isn’t one because different places have different rates. For instance, if you’re traveling in big cities, the rates are usually regulated by the local authorities to prevent taxi drivers from ripping people off. However, some towns may also charge you depending on how many zones or towns you’ve passed.

The best way to find out how much you’re going to pay a taxi to take you from point A to point B is to call the taxi company and ask about their rates. Remember though that this will only give you an idea about how much you’re really going to spend. Sometimes there are factors that you still need to consider that will affect the price you’re going to pay.

For one thing, traffic is your biggest concern. If you’re going to pass through a street that usually has heavy traffic, you might end up paying more than what the cab company tells you. For you to be sure, ask about these details when calling them up. Don’t just ask about the fare, ask if the street is going to be congested by cars on a certain hour in a day. Cab companies are already aware of these things, but they may not mention it to you if you don’t ask them.

Taxi rides can be expensive, especially if you’re going in a very busy city. Rates range from $2.5-$3.50 for the first mile, and about a dollar for every succeeding mile, so you might end up paying a lot especially if there’s heavy traffic.

If you want to make sure that you get to your destination on time and the cheapest way possible, you can opt to rent a car and have a map.
